Commodores Welcome
It is my pleasant duty as Commodore of South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club to welcome your event to the Club this week. I hope you have a wonderful time in the Club, the village and on the water.

SCYC has hosted National and International Championships for over 55 years and one of the pleasures afforded Members of the Club has been to see different fleets in the Bay, and the development of the boats.

The waters off the Club are some of the finest in the UK in which to sail, with two of the highest mountains in Wales visible most days. There is very little tidal movement and no commercial traffic to interrupt the sailing. The beach, and the bay, is as safe as any you could wish to find and if this is your first Event, or your first full racing series on the sea, rest assured that it is a good introduction to this level of competition.

Adam will be looking after your post racing enjoyment in the Bar as usual, with Rob and Josh looking after the water based side of the event. David Smith and staff in the Cove, will be looking after the inner man and woman so please look out for all the opening times this week.

The Club Office is on this deck, Jude and Wil can help with any onshore enquiries you may have, that your own Race Office, at the end of this deck, doesn’t already know the answer to.

I look forward to seeing many competitors in and around the Club. I hope the weather will be suitably sunny with just enough wind to provide keen racing and those long discussions of what might have been in the bar afterwards.

Good luck to one and all.

Anne Munro

Directions to Golf Road (Llon Golff) – Easy Access Slipway Used for Events
To launch your boat on the main beach at Abersoch, it is imperative that you go directly to Golf Road (Llon Golff) and do not drive to the Yacht Club with your trailer, as the congestion along the lane will become impassable. As you enter the main part of the village leave W & G Williams Garage on your left and go up the High Street, keep to the left as it merges into the Sarn Bach Road at the Carisbrooke and Neigwl Hotels. Take the next left, with the Wylfa Hotel on the corner into Golf Road (Llon Golff) and proceed to the bottom of the hill, where there is access to the beach.

We are delighted to announce that the coveted Blue Flag has been awarded to Abersoch main beach for the quality of its water and the safety of the users. However, this means that vehicular access is restricted and cars are not allowed to drive up and down the beach. The Beach Patrol personnel will do everything to assist in the unloading and possible transportation (subject to numbers at any one time) of your trailer along the beach – they are there to help when they can. Please note that the barrier will close promptly each night.

In conclusion we wish you a safe journey to Abersoch and we are keeping our fingers crossed for the more traditional Lleyn Peninsula summer, with sun and sufficient wind to fill your sails. No doubt there will be the usual tales of what might have been in the Bar after racing.

Help with ribs is always appreciated
To operate as patrol boats the RIB will need to have someone aboard with a PB2 and safety boat qualification. If you have these you are very welcome. (Please bring the certificates with you). However we do need to know well in advance so that we can plan adequately.
