News The Series
The title link will take you to the calendar on the main Scottish Optimist website. The list of Scottish Traveller events (lower left corner of the screen) will indicate an Optimist event with the letter O followed by the traveller sequence number in brackets. The first traveller appears as Scottish Traveller (O1, L1), indicating Optimist Traveller 1, Laser Traveller 1. (19/03/2009) Missing Event - re-instated Loch Lomond SC have kindly agreed to host this event. Let's make it a good one! (19/03/2009) So what is a Scottish Traveller Event? Typically, it is a 2 day event (held over a weekend), often held with one or more other classes. We often join forces with the Toppers or the Lasers, since Optimist sailors often move into these classes as they grow. Each event is hosted by a different club. Many clubs invite us to one of their major events (e.g. ELYC where the event is part of the traveller circuit for several classes). The host club does not necessarily have members on the circuit (yet) but hopefully local sailors will join in! The usual IOCA membership restrictions do not apply to members of the host club, although class rules do! A typical regatta will be 6 races, with three on Saturday afternoon, and 3 on Sunday morning. This allows people time to get to the venue on Saturday morning, and get home on Sunday afternoon. There is usually one discard after three races - but check the notice of race and the sailing instructions! Separate starts are usually provided for Regatta Fleet and Main Fleet. Scottish Optimists Regatta fleet is normally a coached racing fleet - with the coaching provided by one of the IOCA(Scotland) coaches. Note that Regatta fleet boats do not have to comply with all the minutae of class rules: they do have to comply with the safety related items.

Information The Traveller Series This site provides a central point for the Scottish Optimist and Scottish Topper Traveller series. The On-line registration facility is offered to the host clubs as an aid for them to judge numbers likely to attend. Not all clubs take up the facility. Since most events are shared with other classes, the registration facility is available to all classes for which starts or results are offered by the host club.
