Message from the selectors

Dear Sailors and Parents

This year the Team trials are taking place over one weekend and not two and you should to be aware that all decisions on team places will be made on Tuesday after racing.

Attached is a spreadsheet outlining the events being selected for together with details of dates of the events and the outline training programme. We suggest all parents look at this and consider their options in the case of selection before Tuesday afternoon .

Further details including the Terms and conditions for each team are on the Selections website page.

On accepting a team place sailors and their parents will be asked to sign a contract of Terms and Conditions and pay the team fees . Please bring a cheque book or the means to pay on line

Selectors ( Alan Williams, Duncan Truswell, Carla Stanley ) will be both on and off the water during the event and are happy to try and answer any questions you may have about any particular event or potential difficulties your may sailor may have meeting the laid out requirements . Any requests for consideration by the Selectors need to be addressed to the Selectors in writing and submitted to the race office at the earliest opportunity.

Carla Stanley

Selection Trials – Support Boats and Coaching

The Selection Trials are the one event of the year where usually we are oversubscribed for RIB support. The size of the event means that only a limited race management and safety fleet is needed, whilst many sailors and families want to have on the water support and possibly coaching, hence there is often a clamour to sign up for safety fleet and other duties. Recognising this, the smaller than usual fleet, and the ongoing need to manage our costs, we are trying a slightly different system for this year, recognising that the needs of race management are different to the needs of Support boats

Race management fleet– we will run a limited 8 RIB race management fleet. Most of those RIBs will be sourced either from PSC or kindly provided by the WYA. We expect to need 2 “parent” provided RIBs for specified duties. Any such parent RIBs will be eligible for mileage and costs per current expenses policy and will have launching and berthing fees paid.

Support RIBs – we fully recognise that many of you will want to be on the water and may also have coaching support, and we do not want to discourage this. To ensure fair racing for all, Support RIBs will need to comply with the following:

- Support RIBs to pre-register on the IOCA safety Googledocs
- Register on arrival at the event and collect a numbered flag – to be displayed clearly at all times on the water.
- Pay for launching and recovery fees at registration – we will then arrange the actual launch via the club and local contractor (note you are NOT permitted to self launch using the Marina slipways).
- Registered support RIBs will be able to berth for the event on the PSC floating dock (at no cost)
- During the event, support RIBs must comply with the requirements of the SIs – for this year we will use the IODA major event practices. This means that support RIBs will remain in a designated waiting area from the Warning signal and until the 1 minute after a non-recalled start before they can leave and move around the outside port hand of the course to observe the racing, keeping 100m clear of the course area at all times
- Once sailors have finished, they must sail back to the waiting area where they can join their support boats. Support boats will be allowed to loiter near the finish area
- In the event of bad weather, Support boats may be called on by the fleet safety control to assist with safety management
- Support RIBs will be responsible for their own fuel costs

The RIB sign-up for the Selections is now live. To register a RIB please sign-up to the IOCA Safety Yahoo Group by emailing
