Out with Lunches ... In with Priority Registration

Volunteer Lunches
As they were not really missed at the Nationals, we have decided not to provide lunches for any volunteers at the End of Seasons.

For those non-optimist-parent volunteers an allowance can be claimed for lunch on your expenses.

Priority Registration
However, following the success of Priority Registration at the Nationals it will be used again for the End of Seasons. Emails have been sent to all families qualifying for Priority Registration.

If you haven't had an email, then please don't try to join the priority queue, but wait patiently until a registration volunteer is available. If you really feel that you should be entitled then you could try sending an email to sailing@optimist.org.uk but be prepared for a polite refusal!

Feedback
If you have any feedback regarding the removal of volunteer lunches or the introduction of Priority Queuing please send an email to admin@optimist.org.uk

Volunteer Shortage

Just over 4 days until the 2013 End of Seasons and the Volunteer Rota has a few large gaps.

Sailors cannot go afloat until all have been registered and tallied, and whilst the mothership may not be the most glamorous of locations but it is very much appreciated by the Main Fleet sailors who are expected to be out on the water all day!

The Regatta Fleet committee boat is very short on help at the moment too. The only required skills are ability to write and maybe pull a few lightweight strings. Some sailing knowledge might be useful, but complete novices are also welcome and encouraged aboard!

Volunteering is often a great way to get close to the racing, it's als a fantastic opportunity to get to know the sailors and other parents, but above all it's fun!

Please take a look and see where you might be able to help out. Volunteer Here

Main Fleet Sailing Instructions

Main Fleet Sailing Instructions are now available .

Please download them (link on right hand side) and bring a copy with you to the event.

Individual copies for each sailor will NOT be available at the event.

Please take time to read through the sailing INstructions, paying particular attention to the following points:

SI 10 - Start - No U flag (but we may use the Z flag as in standard rule 26)

SI 13.4 - Penalty system - The jury could always protest boats for an incident that they observe, but they may now make a sound signal to draw attention to the fact that they have seen what they believe to be an infringement. They will not hail sail numbers.

SI 15.1 - Protests and requests for redress - New requirement to notify the race committee immediately after finishing - This is standard at Optimist world and continental events (and in some other classes).

SI 17.2 - Safety - Explicit that sailors are not to unzip drysuits when unaccompanied in their boats.

SI 17.7 - Safety - Rutland Belle

Volunteers Needed

The volunteer rota is now live for the End of Seasons. Please sign up for a duty as soon as possible.

There is a role for EVERYONE: on the water, off the water, with sailing experience or without, all day - both days or just a few hours at a time, whether you are a lone parent, have non-sailors, or this is your first event. Some of the roles are also suitable for non-sailing or older siblings. None of the roles are too onerous but all are absolutely essential for the smooth running of the event.

If you're new to IOCA events they are a great way to meet other parents and get to know the sailors, it's great to be involved and it's great fun! If you'd like details about any of the roles, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

For those seasoned IOCA event attendees your expertise and continued support is greatly appreciated!

Please take a look and see where you might be able to help out. Volunteer Here

To all those who have already signed up or who are helping as part of the race management/safety/results teams - THANK YOU - we couldn't do it without you!
